2025 and Many
New Beginnings!

2/03/24 - And just like that, many eventful months have flown by for the company! In short, the 2024 run of Triumph or Tragedy at the Vancouver Fringe was a great success, and shortly after that we had 60+ submissions for our auditions: It was a long process with many excellent performers, but in the end we were happy to bring to our ensemble 7 new players in Barbara Beall, Sean Depner, Indu Iyer, Ivy Padmos, Trista Peterson, Raf Rogers and a returning Corey Schmitt! You’ll see more of them soon after a much delayed photo shoot this month!

We’re also delighted to see audiences building at our new monthly home in Vancouver at Little Mountain Gallery: We are oh so happy to be a part of this great venue and hope to continue seeing more growth for it and the comedy community at large.

Finally, there a bunch of Fringe Festivals which will see the return of the company this year, including the Winnipeg, Edmonton and Vancouver Fringe Festivals, and a debut for the company at the Victoria Fringe! There are some more festivals coming as well, so watch out for more announcements here soon!

Finally, the Vancouver Fringe! (Also, Auditions!)

9/03/24 - We’ve had a nice summer here with the company, producing Much Ado About Blank at Little Mountain Gallery as well as taking time to soak in all the sights and sounds of a Vancouver summer. And what better way to wrap all that up then by unveiling our latest pick-your-path adventure at the Vancouver Fringe??

That’s right, after a gangbusters 2023 Prairie Fringe run, the company will be performing at the Vancouver Fringe for the very first time at Ballet BC. Tickets can be purchased HERE and as of this writing are already over a third sold before the start of the festival!

Also: The company is holding auditions for the first time since 2022! To obtain an audition, you can fill out this form. Make sure to do so by Sept 21st, 2024 at the latest!

Shakespeare’s New Home!

4/20/24 - Another run finished for the company at Tightrope Theatre, and we are so thankful for the opportunity to play on stage at their wonderful theatre. However, the company will be moving to a new location for their upcoming run, and are delighted to announce that we will produce our next run of shows at the relaunched Little Mountain Gallery (110 Water Street) located in Vancouver’s Historic Gastown District. LMG has been a mainstay of the Vancouver comedy scene and an incubator for so much talent: We’re delighted to be bringing Much Ado About Blank to LMG the first Friday of the Month at 7pm for May, June and July. That’s right, the next show is May 3rd at LMG and we hope to see you there!

A Grand Debut!

2/24/24 - What a summer for The Spontaneous Shakespeare Company! After smash hit success at the Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Edmonton Fringe Festivals, featuring sold out runs and being named the Best National Show at the Saskatoon Fringe, the company returned for a fall run at Tightrope Theatre before putting their tragedy format Breaking Bard to bed. So, what would come next?

On February 11th, the grand debut of Much Ado About Blank premiered at a special double header show alongside Fistful of Kicks at the Anza Club to a packed house. Featuring the musical accompaniment of new company member Blue Chu, the format was a smash success and will be returning to Tightrope Impro Theatre for a run every Friday, 7:30pm in March! Tickets can be bought at this link. Hope to see you there!

Thank you Tightrope!

5/12/23 - After a wonderful four show run, our current season at Tightrope Theatre comes to a close with one final sold out performance to cap everything off.

We are so grateful to the team at Tightrope for hosting the return of our company and for offering us all the support we needed to bring this show to life. In particular, Ali Froggatt for offering us the space to run auditions and perform our shows, Lava for running our tech for the entirety of our run, and all the Tightrope staff, Michael, Blue, Stirling, Sarah for running front of house and bar. It’s been a wonderful run truly made possible by having such great support behind the scenes. And now, we take a short break before heading off on our three city Fringe tour! Breaking Bard will soon be at the Winnipeg, Saskatoon, and Edmonton Fringe Festivals.

We are also saying goodbye to Daelyn, who is leaving for the UK. She remains a member at large of the company, and we hope to enjoy more improvised silliness with her in the future. All the best!
